Picked up the 1973 factory built Clan today, full of vegetation and wildlife, but complete! Thanks Gerry for use of the trailer, it made light work of it. Will post some pics when I get time and put together a plan of action to strip down and rebuild her, him, er it? ? A lot of work, but I'm looking forward to it.

I know.... The funny thing is, the older I get, the quicker time goes!!! I'm aiming to get started pretty sharpish, just a couple of small jobs to do on my Imp first, then the Clan gets my full attention. Got some pics. I'd put them on, if only I knew how to? ?

I know ..It was some 40 years ago when i bought my first Imp(Singer Chamois). The decades sweep by! Time seem to stand still when you were at school..Then you were old enough to drive..even you know - have ***! Suddenly ..30 years knocked up then 40...50..and tomorrow i'm 57 knocking on 60! Still at least my ****** is still functioning if only wasted.
Your right there isn't an image connection on here..I'm still trying to fathom out the reducing of size and getting the address..Despite being told many times...Every time a different explanation..My pc doesn't comply.. sometimes i'm lucky to get a blue square though! Oh well back to the workshop..Just spent another lot of dosh on HGH . This time a Laminova! More drilling holes ..Making up brackets!
I was doing so well before Xmas ..Thought i'd have it completely revamped by March. That was until i started on the rear end. The way i'm going it will weigh a 1000kgs. Still maybe i'll be lucky and give Stuart C some grief at MIRA in August! The car looks the part even if i'm not!

Hi guys,
I'll look into the issue of posting images on this forum. In the meantime if you send me any relevant pictures I'll host them on my webspace and then post links on this forum. That way I can also use the images for the main website.
But please choose the photos first and only send me just a few, in smallish format (e.g. 800x600 max), so I don't have to trawl through photos and resize them, which is the time-consuming bit!
Cheers
Gerry

Good to see another potential Clan race car. You've chosen well but then I'm biased. Seriously, the Clan is in my opinion a relatively cheap car to prepare for racing, I should know I've been racing one for more than 20 years and I'm not known for spending money if I can help it. It shouldn't take too long to build once you get going and if I can be of help feel fee to contact me. My advice is free.
Out of interest my new car debuted at Spa two weeks ago. Although this had sat in my garage as a rolling shell for a couple of years the main work to turn it into a race car was completed in the last couple of months including a respray and complete wiring from scratch.

Thanks Pete - Tim lives around 5 miles from me and he seems to be the kind of chap who will get stuck into his Clan, so I'm sure your help will be much appreciated. I've just started on the Davrian after 2 years of inactivity and distractions (G15!) so Tim and I are in a similar boat - I only wish I could get jobs done as quickly as you do. Photos of Tim's Clan: Nice trailer Tim- I've still got your number plate by the way! PS happy birthday Dave L!

Crikey, it's halfway there. No bumpers and ready for the front spoiler, available from me of course. Interior virtually stripped. 2 months and on the grid!

Hi Pete I've heard a lot about you and I must say your advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm not so bad mechanically, but I have a bit of a block electrically, mainly because I avoid it, or have in the past, so both Deb and Pete may find some pestering from me. Gerry, I realised when I got back that I'd left the number plate on, I'll get in touch some time to arrange to get it from you and yes, it is a nice trailer. Thanks for storing it for me at your place.

Stripped out the seats and got rid of the rotted carpets, got rid of the horrible glue that held the carpets down as well. Looks better already. However, I have found what I think will be the first major challenge; the seats had brackets fabricated by the previous owner, in the sill sections, I'm pretty sure that it's because the previous ones collapsed due to the plywood strengtheners (I think it's diaphragms in Clan speak) rotting. Some remedial work has been carried out, but on closer inspection and managing to get my arm behind the fibreglass, through a hole below the rear windows, I managed to break off quite a bit of the rotten plywood behind and it has not been replaced with new plywood, just fibreglass!!! Now, attention all Clan owners, I need to replace these pretty sharpish and I was wondering if any of you had any drawings, or patterns so I can make new ones up and fit them. I know Pete Richards has a lot of experience with Clans, do you think you could give me some info? Or do you think a specialist should do them? I'm pretty sure I can do it myself, but I don't know if there are any horrible pit falls waiting around the corner. By the way Pete, I sent you a PM, don't know if you got it, but I would be interested in the front spoiler you mentioned as well as a lightweight boot and engine lid.

Taken out centre console and removed the remaining bits of carpet. The doors are now off and upon inspection, the hinges are pretty knackered. Looking around I've seen other Clans with an external, Mini type, hinge conversion, I think this is the way I'll go. That's once I've stripped all the weight out of the doors and fitted perspex windows, with a basic slide mechanism, to open and shut them. Still had no information from anybody on how to do the diaphragms, just taken the hinge cover panel off from inside the wheel arch and can see the remains of one of the strengtheners there, so, if anyone can give me some helpful info, I'd appreciate it, cos the jig saw's about to make an appearance!!!!!

Just removed the remains of the offside diaphragm, mmm, lovely job to do. A previous owner had fabricated some from thin gauge stainless steel and, in fairness, without having the proper info, it wasn't too bad a job, it was probably fairly sturdy. I got in touch with Jim McEwan from the Clan Club and bought 2 new diaphragms for a fiver each!!!!! Unbelievable really, considering how important they are. Bought a 998 race engine, in bits, with R20 cam, big valve and ported head, racing clutch, and lightened bits. Looks a sound basis for a an engine build. Picking up some lightweight body parts from Pete at Imp 09 on Sunday. Hoping to get cracking with everything now that the holiday period is over, so I'll have a lot more posts with hopefully loads of progress, to put on.

Did I say I was just taking out the diaphragms? The rear parcel shelf has had it too, so that's come out as well. Not as messy as i thought it would be, but getting rid of forty years worth of dust and dirt from inside the sills was a pain. Still, that's saved another 20kg in weight............well it seemed like it anyway.
