Thanks to the email this morning regarding the range of Millers's Oil products. Question is without contacting the technical dept ...What engine oil do you use? Run of the mill 20-50 for an historic engine of the "Motorsport type 20-50? Back in the 1980's i used ordinary 20 -50 but changed it every other time, and the same for HGH when i did H&S. Stuart W found some Valvoline Race oil which was 20-50 and so we started using that with no ill effects(?)! When i came across the ScuderiaTopolino website he had a section on lubrication which covered all my answers, and if you do the same you can learn what vital ingrediants are necessary for the historic engine not only viscosity wise ,but things like ....Well you read it up yourself and perhaps if Mr or Mrs Millers is reading this then perhaps they can enlighten if their product is up to the spec required for motorsport! Yours David L

Hi, I was in a similer situation with regards to Oil for my race motor. lucky for us we have Millers on board. You can do one of two things read there technical or give Robin a call and explain exactly what you require. They sponsor lots of race series.
He certainly knows his stuff and is very much into mtorsports including historics. There are certain additives they now use instead of zinc which is now removed out of the valvoline which i once used. Not saying Valvoline is no good by the way.
He will give you all the jargon and info.
Regrads Mike

Yep thats exacly what i mean't regarding additives, only i thought it worth mentioning the www.ScuderiaTopolino.com website as it gives an unbias (if there is a bias in the first place) opinion on oils and petrol and everything else about race vehicles.. Regrads to you as well mate!

Don't know if anyone else has acquired but i have asked Robin about suitable engine oil and he recommends a certain 10 -40 brew which has substitutes of 1000ppm instead of zinc and phosporous. From the info on the Scuderia site Vavoline has/had 1200ppm zinc and 1200ppm. Does anyone know the price of Vavoline as it stands? Robin quoted me £48.00 for 5 litres of Millers + £8 for carriage! Thats to HTS members.
Is that reasonable as i'm a bit out of touch with prices. Actually the last time i bought oil was from a really good motoring shop in Essex a 4.5 litre of 20-50 cost £4.95.. I used it as a first oil on an engine rebuild then used Duckhams or GTX there after
