I'm getting to the stage where I need to get some ideas of roll cage for the Clan. Is there a standard set of dimensions for the Clan cage or can a bespoke one be fabricated? What material spec and what minimum diameter should the tube be? Anyone got any ideas?

Your future mentor(?) Pete Richards must be the answer to all your questions, being Clan orientated...Suggest you obtain a copy of the blue book or the cd which someone must have spare! Then you will have a reference to go from,in all aspects of preparation to rules of the MSA requirements!

Thanks David
I've got the Blue book on the internet, I'll have a look and see what it entails. Hopefully Pete will shed some light on it for me as well.

General advice re cages in GRP cars:
1. The Blue Book is vague in terms of mounting requirements, spreader plates etc as it doesn't allow for the inablility to weld straight to the car. As far as I can see the integrity of the mounting is down to the skill and expertise of the cage manufacturer, and its eligibilty down to the judgement of RAC scruts. An MSA certificate should help (see point 3 below).
2. It is however specific on minimum materials so be sure to use the correct CDS or better spec material, of appropriate size.
3. Unless you can buy a cage off the shelf with an MSA roll cage certificate, you will need the manufacturer to provide a certificate of MSA compliance. Probably doesn't apply to second hand cages.
4. Budget around £1200-£1500 to have a good point cage tailor made and fitted, less if you can buy a 'pattern' cage and/or fit it yourself. Not an option with a Davrian.
The above is based on my own experience, so please don't hold it up as gospel truth and make sure you speak to expert cage builders if unsure.

You say probably don't need a certificate with a secondhand cage! If you do and you dont know the supplier/constructor ..Then what do you do! If you don't ..What's to say you make your own up and say it was in the car when you bought it!! I've been adding to my cage in accordance with the blue book. That is to the best of my understanding! They also say later this does not comply to a FIA cage...Seek compliance(?)! I have mostly welded in the cage as a point of making it a chassis stiffener as well..being carefull to avoid the situation of suspension points. Also not to reinforce the tubing of the rollcage as it is(?)! Which would make it a Sports Libre car!!
I have bought lengths of suitable tubing from the Rollcentre in Cambs in 38mm section...This is something that maybe better for home working . also actually getting it in the car(Clan)!

I'll reply more specifically to your message but I can confirm that you can get a Clan cage direct from Rollcentre. It comes in kit form as a selection of bent tubes but unfortunately they do not have any fitting instructions. I've fitted a rear section to my original car and it was not too difficult. I have a front section and door bars in my garage but I've already got a buyer for them. I've seen a complete cage fitted to an Irish Clan and I understand it was not too much of a problem.
