I think they're may be problems allowing forced induction in this series. I accept that if someone wants to put a turbo or supercharger on a standard engine and has the ability then this is a good way to increase performance ,but when someone has a large budget he could potentially blow every one else away.the cost to build a full spec blown engine with billet rods, forged pistons etc would cost much more than a race 1 litre . I no because I'm half way through a supercharged ,injected imp engine using an Opcon blower and it isn't cheap!

Yes i can see the thing that you are saying.. Even so apart from a NSU TTS with 5 bearing crank then i think the limit it really sets is at around 150bhpish even with exotic hardware! A 3 bearing design engine cannot sustain heady F1 type forced injection outputs i feel! My supercharged/turbo idea is to obtain comparative outputs for less money! I have an Imp engine that is say 100bhp now. Im expecting a sizeable jump in output using the internals as is..I'll be using a Eaton M45 which cost 175 pounds,a camshaft that i will think out myself and fuel injection from a Ford Escort! The Fiat engine is again 3 bearing and after asking Paul of ScuderiaTopolino confirms that 130 bhp should be on the cards for not so much tip top internals! I'm expecting them to be reliable more so than screaming at 8000-9000rpm on a race circuit!
I'd be interested in your forced induction work..I've never heard of a Ofcon Charger before! email addy is limjamrace2012@hotmail.co.uk if you don't want the world to know! David L.

Hi Stuart,
Cost considerations aside (and there are those who contend that forced induction is the ultimate route to cheap extra BHP!) our plan remains as a series for NA cars, as this is what was originally envisaged and promoted to potential members.
Having said that I love turbo systems and I'm really interested in seeing what people are doing, but they remain outside the scope of the proposed series.
Cheers

David you appear to be being dragged into the must have high horsepower to win camp. As I've said before don' be fooled by the figures that are banded around. I believe that my 998 in the Clan puts out around 105bhp. Not a massive amount compared to what others supposedly have. Am I competitive in the ABN Series in Europe? I believe my results show that I am. Five bearing NSU's race in the series with capacities all around 1200cc's I regularly beat all but a couple of them. Fiat's with upto 130bhp, only the odd one is at the front of the field and then usually behind me. Now those 1300 Mini's I admit they are a problem but I'm working on it. Pete Richards

As I've said before if you want to use forced injection then as the capacity limit is 1000cc then you would be limited to approx 710cc Fine by me although I think the cost would be in excess of that for a decent 998.
My advice to novices is to sort the handling and then when you can't go any faster that's the time to go for power.
